Is It Time for a New Roof?
For all the upsides to being a homeowner, when it comes to roof repairs and replacements, things can get a little confusing. Without a doubt, your home’s roof is important, but you don’t want to spend the money to replace it, if you don’t need to. Before you make a decision, it’s important to ask yourself some questions to determine whether or not it’s time to upgrade your home’s roofing system.
How old is your roofing system? Most asphalt roofs last only about 25-30 years, so if your roof is in that range or older it maybe time to consider getting a new roof. Even if your shingle roof looks alright at a distance, you can rest assured that if your roof is more than 20 years old, it won’t be long before it will need replaced.
Are your shingles in poor condition? If your shingles are cracked, dry, bending, or missing, it’s a good indication that your asphalt shingles are either failing now, or may fail in the very near future. You may need to ask your contractor to inspect your roof, or grab a ladder and head up to the edge of your roof to get a closer look at your shingles.
Is there evidence of leaking or water damage inside or outside of your home? Water stains and discoloration in your attic or on your ceilings are definitely something to keep an eye out for. They tell the tale of a roof that is in bad need of either repair or replacement.
